Join Kati and co-contributor Sarah Viren as they help launch Beautiful Flesh: A Body of Essays at Tucson's Antigone Books. Culled from some of the nation's best literary journals, each essay in the anthology explores a different body part. At this event, we'll read from our works, discuss what it means to write about the body, and lead attendees in a short prompt writing themselves.
Local author Kati Standefer won the 2015 Iowa Review Award in Nonfiction and has been featured in Best American Essays 2016. Her Pushcart Prize nominated essay, Shock to the Heart, Or: A Primer on the Practical Applications of Electricity, is a modular essay on the author's internal cardiac defibrillator and the nature of electricity.
Wolf Biter, Viren’s featured essay, examines the author’s relationship with her hands, physically scarred and worn from years of obsessive, destructive habits. Sarah Viren is a Phoenix-based author and winner of the River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Book Prize and multiple other literary awards.
