What keeps us from writing sex? And why is it so important that we do it anyway?

In this three hour evening workshop, we'll unpack the sexual culture we're living in, with the goal of understanding how this affects the projects writers take on and the way the public responds to them. Together, we'll explore terms like sex positivity and sex negativity, break down the idea of "normal" sexuality, and consider the different ways we censor ourselves and others. We'll discuss the difference between sex as a narrative tool (including sex scenes), and the work of writing deeply about sexuality as a topic, dropping briefly into ways to be a sex positive force in creative writing workshops. 

Along the way, participants will respond to writing prompts intended to excavate and illuminate their own stories of sex and sexuality, and we'll connect through the bold act of (optionally) sharing this work with each other.

Because this session largely draws on the first day of the introductory sex writing class "Penning the Nasty," all participants will receive $15 off any future enrollment in that course. Writers of all genres are welcome (and non-writers who find themselves intrigued, too).
